Announcement: My Manuscript is Done! What's Next?

Hey everyone, we have a very important announcement. One I truly believe you'll enjoy.

Background is an ombre from purple to yellow. Foreground is a white bell with a black, off center shadow.

Not many authors write with the goal of becoming a one hit wonder. It's rarely the dream to have one book published. However, there's a phenomenon that happens when a writer finally, finally, finishes a book. I've heard it becomes less severe over time, I've heard it doesn't.

There's a dopamine drop when you finish a serious project like a book. You've been so tuned into it and celebrated each milestone. The final one leaves you feeling like something is missing. Because something is. Your finished book.

I am
absolutely
not
immune to this.

Just like anyone else I fall to post-project slumps. After a day or two recovering from it I decided there's got to be a better way. Sleep and alcohol are great but no one has time for all this.

Here's what I'm doing about it! Narrowing down my pipeline and vault to my favorite ideas. I really did some digging and found some fun ones. Below are my top five picks for my next book, or first series depending on the inspiration. Feel free to comment which project you'd be most interested in seeing more of.

Top picks I'll post more about, where applicable I'll share test scenes and early draft work. Let's turn this ride into a collaboration.

Jazaar

A companion book to Shinelle but from Jazaar's POV. I want to explore his obsessive spiral, how he (allegedly) commits crimes hinted at in the first book, what he's up to while she's at the farm. I believe the two books would support each other and expand the world nicely. I also believe there's so little fiction from the antagonist's POV and there's no reason for it. I crave it. Why not write it?

It's Complicated

You've seen the original brain dump here on the blog, but it's been developed some since and I only love it more as I work on it. This is a trilogy following Moira and Jack. Two cadets in military school, both hard to manage, until they meet each other. I imagine it as a slow burn from her POV, and him realizing he's not the only sun in the sky from his. I've also been developing character arcs for the side characters. This would be my most expansive world yet.

The Order

One member of eight different families will be possessed in order to save the world from the power of the demons. And we're following one of them as she leaves the Order, which teaches her to suppress her demon, and learns that the best way to control the beast is to cooperate with it. With a love arc, of course, and he's a Hunter (who hunt members of the Order), and she joins a band of mercs. I can see several different storylines in this one, so it has series potential.

Which of these ideas do you think would make the best next step? Which star should we visit? Am I just going to write whichever one I vibe with most?

Only time will tell. Comment your favorite and check out my existing book Shinelle! Preorders available now.
